Just a Bunch of Turkeys!

Why does a turkey say "gobble, gobble"?

Because they never learned good table manners!

Last week in kindergarten we made vegetable print turkeys to go along with our themes of Thanksgiving and Nutrition.  We used potatoes to make the turkey body...

And peppers to make the colorful tail feathers.  The result was finger licking good!

So, what vegetable should you eat at Thanksgiving dinner?

Beets me!

Hamster Fun

We had a special guest visit kindergarten this morning - meet Spider Mouse, a teddy bear hamster that belongs to one of Mrs. D'Agnone's students.  We had fun watching her run around in her hamster ball, petting her soft fur, and learning about why she is a nocturnal animal (one that sleeps during the day and is awake all night).

We Fit Together

Just like in a jigsaw puzzle, we all have an important role in our kindergarten room.  Each of us belongs and contributes something unique.  Take away a single piece, and the picture is no longer complete.

And yet, no two pieces of a puzzle are exactly alike.  In order to fit together we have to be different, but we have to work with each other and accept those differences.  

In Kindergarten, we are working hard to learn to respect each other.

Reading Boxes

One of the great things about kindergarten is working with early reading and writing skills.  Children at this age are so excited about words, sounds and stories.  Your child will be bringing home a variety of reading materials that they have been working on at school, and to which they have added their own personal artistic touch.  For this reason, we requested last week that you send in a shoebox with your child.

Here is the result:  The Reading Box.  As the year progresses, place any kindergarten sound and phonics books in this box, and encourage your child to return to it regularly to enjoy their work, and practice their reading skills.

Oh, The Weather Outside is Frightful...

It's that time of year again - winter weather is upon us.  Please make sure that your child has appropriate outdoor clothing, as well as a pair of inside school shoes to keep at kindergarten on our shoe rack.  This will allow us to help our custodians keep the school clean, as children will not have to wear wet or muddy shoes inside the building.  It will also keep the students more comfortable, and gym time safer, if they are not having to clomp around in boots during kindergarten activities.  We appreciate all of your help and support!

Friday Kindergarten

Regular Friday Kindergarten Hours:

On Fridays, our kindergarten hours run the same as the rest of the school.  Your child needs to be dropped off at 8:30am and picked-up at 12:45pm, which are the times of the regular Friday bells.  AM and PM Kindergarten alternate Fridays.  The schedule for when your child comes is listed on the sidebar under "Important Reminders". 

On October 30, 2009, both classes will be attending for our class Halloween party.

AM Kindergarten will attend between 8:30am and 10:30am.

PM Kindergarten will attend between 10:45am and 12:30pm (due to dismissal of the entire school 15 mins early).

They need to be dressed in a costume, but do not require a lunch or a snack.  We are still looking for moms to bring in a special treat for certain classes.  If you are interested in contributing, talk to Mrs. Thomson or Mrs. D'Agnone.

Shoebox

This is just a quick reminder about a shoebox.  Each child will need a shoebox at kindergarten on Wednesday, October 14th.  We will be decorating these boxes and turning them into a "Reading Box".  These boxes will collect all the books the children make.  They can pull these books out at any time and read them.  It's a great way to practice and the books will always be in the same place!
